The SFCAMFT Diversity Committee presents the continuation of the White Allies Working Group. Thank you to all who joined the important and inspiring discussion in March, and we look forward to seeing you in June for both returning and new participants. This year, we are reading How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi, and aim to further develop cultural competency and action steps for white identified clinicians to be better allies in our therapist community as well as in our work with clients of color.

This group is peer-facilitated. SF CAMFT Board Members Carrie Johnson, LMFT and Therese Yrani, LMFT will be coordinating group meetings.  This year’s working group will use the book How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi and the designated discussion guide to address moving from awareness to action in our personal, professional, community, and collective lives.

Above all our goal is to create a space for white clinicians to work towards dismantling racism and striving to be antiracist. The book’s discussion guide will be a guidepost but not the sole vehicle of discussion. We welcome participation even if you are unable to complete the reading (or listening if you choose audio formats), and the guidelines for timing your reading are suggestions only. We also know that schedules are busy and welcome your feedback about the planned Friday afternoon timeframes. The group will be virtual in 2021. You do not need to attend all meetings to be a part of this group- you can attend on a drop in basis.

There is no charge to join this group, and all white identified members are invited to join.
